Ah, passwords! Those pesky combinations of letters, numbers, and symbols are critical to our digital lives. At my job, I use anywhere from 5 to 10 unique passwords a day to do my job. Those passwords are only for access to the online portals for marketing and social media tools; I have even more for administrative and internal communications work. I refuse to be the reason that my company has a cyber incident, so I go above and beyond the best practices of creating a strong password. I always use MFA and my security key and never reuse a password at work. A strong password is the first line of defense to protect the company, and I do my part.

I know we have all been there, trying to remember the password for a site so that we can enter travel receipts or log onto the O365 environment and check our email. I dread having to hit the ''Forgot Password?'' link and then must remember yet another password to reset our first password.

Dance Your Way to a Password
If you spice up your favorite song title with irregular capitalization and special characters, you can create a secure password that will take too long to hack. Imagine your fingers gliding across the keyboard as you groove to the beats. "AlltheS1ngleladies:)" or "L0veGotToDowIthIt?" are both great examples of secure passphrases that will make you want to get up and dance.
Embrace Your Inner Mob Boss
Sometimes, I don't like the programs I have to use, and for those portals, I want to let them know that I run this family with a spicy password. The project management software will know you mean business with a password like "Take@DIRTnap1975" or "2Cementb00ts!"
For Food's Sake
I can always tell what time of day I created a password if it has food. My retired favorite is "CanIeatLunchat10AM*" I had a really early start that day. Add in your favorite snack, "eatLAYS3timesaD@y" or "whoaT3alltheKitKats?" and you have a secure password that might increase your junk food cravings.
Think Like a Comedian
Basic jokes make great passphrases. Use punchlines or wordplay to create memorable passwords. For example, "KnockKnockWhosThere?ItsYourPassword2023" or "Cake0Rdeath?weArealloutofcake" Take your favorite Netflix comedy special and use the best lines as passphrases.
Turn Passwords into Catchy Tunes
When in doubt, sing it out! That song will be stuck in your head all day; why not use it for a passphrase? Choose a melody, and replace the lyrics with your password. For example, sing along to the tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" with "P@sswordSecureAndStrong, InMyMindItBel0ngs!"
